General and Vascular Neurosurgery Department

The General and Vascular Neurosurgery Department of “Saint Gregory the Illuminator” Medical Center is located on the 1st floor (A1) of the surgical building.

The department consists of a team of professional and experienced doctors, including young physicians. The middle and junior medical personnel in the department also possess specialized knowledge and experience in their respective fields.

The department is involved in various significant activities within the Republic of Armenia. It offers diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of neurosurgical diseases, including both urgent and planned cases. Some of the conditions treated by the department include:

  • Cranial injuries
  • Spine and spinal cord injuries
  • Brain tumors
  • Spinal cord tumors
  • Lumbar disc herniations
  • Cervical disc herniations
  • Hemorrhagic stroke
  • Brain cyst
  • Skull defects
  • Hydrocephalus
  • Brain abscesses
  • Subcutaneous growths of the soft tissues of the head

 

The department performs the following surgeries:

  • Removal of traumatic intracranial hematomas
  • Removal of brain tumors
  • Laminectomy and transpedicular fixation for vertebral fractures and spondylolisthesis
  • Skull defect repair
  • Removal of lumbar disc herniations
  • Removal of cervical disc herniations with CAGE implant placement
  • Ventriculoperitoneal shunting
  • Removal of spinal cord tumors
  • Removal of spinal canal abscesses
  • Removal of subcutaneous growths
  • Removal of brain abscesses
  • Primary surgical treatment of head soft tissue wounds
